Dr. Hurwitz received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern, Dallas, Texas, in 1984. He received his postgraduate training in general surgery from the Lutheran Medical Center, Cleveland, Ohio from 1984 to 1985. He performed an additional year of training in general surgery from the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Virginia, from 1985 to 1986. He received his residency in urology from Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, Louisianna, from 1986 to 1990.

Dr. Hurwitz's areas of specialty in urology include the following:

  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
  • Female urology
  • Urologic oncology
  • Incontinence

Dr. Hurwitz is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He has published and presented numerous papers on urological topics to professional associations in his pursuit to advance the field of urology. He holds active memberships in several local and national associations, such as the American Medical Association, the Texas Medical Association, the Houston Urological Association, and the American Association of Clinical Urologists.

Dr. Hurwitz held the position of Chief Resident in urology at both the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Alexandria, Louisianna, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center, New Orleans, Louisianna.

Dr. BarnesNathaniel L. Barnes, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Director of Neurourology & Urodynamics

Dr. Barnes received his medical degree from Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1989. He completed both his internship and residency in general surgery from Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina, from 1989 to 1991. He was the senior resident in urologic surgery at Duke University Medical Center from 1991 to 1994, during which time he won the Jack McGovern Award for Excellence in Urologic Surgery in 1993. He served as chief resident in urologic surgery from 1994 to 1995.

Dr. Barnes was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant in the US Army in 1985, where he served as a Major in both the Medical Corps and the Combat Support Command before leaving active duty.

Dr. Barnes areas of specialty include the following:

  • Neurourology-urodynamics/voiding dysfunction
  • Endourology/stone disease
  • Female urology
  • Male infertility

Dr. Barnes received a research fellowship in the areas of urodynamics and neurourology from Duke University in 1991. He has published and presented numerous articles and abstracts to urological associations and holds active memberships in both national and local medical associations, such as the American Urological Association, the South Central Section of the AUA, and the Texas Medical Association.

Dr. Barnes is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Dr. NguyenThanh A. Nguyen, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Director of Uroradiology

Dr. Nguyen received his medical degree from Texas Tech University School of Medicine, Lubbock, Texas, in 1993. He performed his urology residency at St. Louis University Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Nguyen's areas of specialty in urology include the following:

  • Endourology/stone disease
  • Female urology
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)

Dr. Nguyen is is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is involved in advancing the field of urology including publishing professional articles and presenting papers at professional urological assemblies. He maintains memberships in several medical societies including the American Urological Association, the American Medical Association, and the Texas Medical Association.

Dr. Nguyen is fluent in English and Vietnamese, with a working knowledge of Spanish for the convenience of his patients.

Dr. DowDouglas S. Dow, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Director of Endourology

Douglas S. Dow, M.D., grew up in Houston and attended Bellaire High School. He received his BS from George Washington University in 1990. In 1994, Dr. Dow received his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch. He completed both his internship and his residency in urologic surgery at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida, in 2000, including one year of urologic oncologic surgery at The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. He served as chief resident in urologic surgery from 1999 to 2000.

Dr. Dow is certified by the American Board of Urology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).

Dr. Dow's areas of special interest in urology include the following:

  • Urologic oncology
  • Endourology/stone disease
  • Voiding dysfunction
  • Robotic applications in urology
Dr. Dow has presented research at international and national meetings on a number of subjects including urologic reconstruction using intestinal segments, erectile dysfunction, interstitial cystitis, and the use of herbal supplements in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

Dr. Dow performs robot assisted laparoscopic urologic surgery using the state of the art Da Vinci robot by Intuitive(www.davincisurgery.com). This tool assists the surgeon to perform surgery with benefits such as:

  • Less blood loss
  • Less pain
  • Less scarring
  • Shorter hospitalization
  • Quicker return to normal activity

Dr. Dow holds active membership in a number of organizations, including the American Urologic association, The American College of Surgeons, The Texas Urologic Society, and the Texas Medical Association. As a native Houstonian, he is committed to advancing the field of urology in our community.

Dr. HoggattMatthew D. Hoggatt, M.D.

Dr. Hoggatt is a local Houstonian who attended Alief Hastings High School. He received his BS from Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas, in 1996. He attended The University of Texas in Houston and received his medical degree there in 2001. His specialty training was performed at The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque where he completed his internship and residency in General Surgery from 2001-2003; and then completed his residency in Urologic Surgery from 2003-2006. He served as the Chief Resident in Urologic Surgery at the University of New Mexico and The Veterans Administration Medical Center Albuquerque from 2005-2006.

Dr. Hoggatt's areas of special interest in urology include:

  • Urologic oncology
  • Endourology/stone disease
  • Robotic applications in urology
  • Prosthetics

Dr. Hoggatt's research on renal transplantation medications was presented at an international meeting in Dublin Ireland in 2004 at the meeting of the South Central Section of the American Urologic Association. He currently maintains membership in the Endourological Society; the American Urologic Society; the South Central Section of the American Urologic Society; the Harris County Medical Society; and the Texas Medical Association. Dr. Hoggatt is certified by the American Board of Urology
